Meet Your Site Director!

Candy Alvarado
Site Director

Candy joined the Project Scientist team in 2016 where she began teaching the preK-Kinder class. Driven by the mission of Project Scientist to deliver a diverse and high quality STEM academy she returned the following summer as a site director at Caltech. Her passion for teaching and delivering high quality instruction began early on as she received a degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Credential from Cal State Long Beach. She worked as a teacher for 12 years in Los Angeles taking on leadership roles. While mentoring student teachers from both CSDH and CSLB Candy completed a certification program from the University of Irvine in Math and Science. Through this program Candy discovered a new interest in STEM. Today Candy is a mother of two: a nine year old daughter who wants to be a neuroscientist thanks to Project Scientist and a six year old son that also partakes in STEM activities. Candy is an active member in her community and a leader to her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop. Committed to closing the gender gap she seizes any opportunity to drive and spark interest in STEM!

Hear From a Project Scientist Parent

Eleanor Wu, Project Scientist Parent

“Both of my girls have really enjoyed Project Scientist Summer Camp in the last two years! Last summer, we participated in the All Aboard! Transportation week, and my girls are still excited watching the videos of them demonstrating a rocket launch and using rubber bands to show motion. They had a blast visiting JetBlue on Expedition Day and were talking about it for weeks afterwards!”
