When 58% of high school girls feel STEM careers are out of reach, this New Partnership steps in to change the narrative for girls across the country—sparking confidence, curiosity and real opportunity.
Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN: Project Scientist, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing girls in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM), is proud to announce a new partnership with the NBA Foundation. The grant will support Project Scientist’s out-of-school programs, providing underestimated girls across the country—including those in the Twin Cities—with access to high-quality, hands-on STEAM education and career exploration.
This marks the first collaboration between Project Scientist and the NBA Foundation and reflects a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future in STEM fields. The partnership comes at a crucial time, as systemic barriers and a lack of representation continue to impact girls’ confidence and aspirations in STEM fields.
Through research-driven, joy-based learning and mentorship, Project Scientist helps girls build confidence, spark curiosity, and see themselves as leaders in STEM. The programs primarily serve students in Title I schools—many of whom come from low-income, underrepresented communities—across key NBA markets including Charlotte, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis.

Thanks to the NBA Foundation’s generous support, these students will gain access to world-class STEAM education and career exploration opportunities at no cost to their families. “This isn’t just a grant—it’s a game-changer,” said Dr. Patrice S. Johnson, CEO of Project Scientist. “With the NBA Foundation by our side, we’re rewriting the playbook for what’s possible for girls in STEM. Together, we’re breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes, and lighting a fire in the next generation of scientists, engineers, and disruptors. Our girls are ready to lead—and now, the world is watching.”
