Amy lives in southeast Michigan, where she enjoys being a mom, living near the Detroit River, cooking meals that bring loved ones together, and dancing to her favorite music. Amy's interests include creating art, swimming, hiking, writing, learning about healthy ecosystems, tending to plants and animals, and supporting her community.
Favorite Woman in STEM: Monique Gray Smith, award-winning Cree, Lakota, and Scottish children’s author. Amy admires how Monique’s work, including 'Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults' adaptation with Robyn Wall Kimmerer, and 'You Hold Me Up', bridges Indigenous ecological knowledge and learning to approach community with reciprocity, cultural respect, and care for the Earth. Monique’s storytelling inspires Amy’s commitment to community-driven science.
