Our commitment to
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
At Project Scientist, we firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are essential for creating a more equitable and just society. To this end we have intentionally pivoted our programming in recent years to serve and focus on girls from marginalized and underserved communities.
We believe in living our values and strive to incorporate our commitment to DEIB across our programs by:
Partnering with schools and nonprofits that work with marginalized, low-income and underserved populations.
Offering our programs tuition-free to all students.
Adapting our programs to Spanish and partnering with dual-immersion schools and nonprofits.
Training educators on gender and racially-equitable teaching strategies through our Teaching Institute, and increasing our impact exponentially.
Our DEIB efforts go well beyond our classrooms. We are committed to promoting the personal and overall well being and sense of belonging of our staff and students alike. We are actively working to maintain a work culture where individuals, of all identities, feel safe, respected, and valued as leaders or contributors to our organizational mission, vision, and purpose. Throughout 2023 and beyond, as board and staff, we are taking a thoughtful approach to increasing diversity and inclusion in STEM.
Our vision is a future where girls* and women have equal access to pursue their STEM education, careers and leadership aspirations, in a society that recognizes and harnesses the innovation generated by tapping into the full spectrum of gender, racial and diverse identities.
Since founding, Project Scientist has served over 20,000 girls, hosted over 370 expeditions, engaged over 1200 women STEM professionals and trained over 375 teachers and educators.
Project Scientist started in our founder Sandy Marshall’s backyard when she couldn’t find a STEM program for her daughter. 10 years on we have grown tremendously while pivoting and adapting to many challenges along the way.
